Pinellas County: A St. Petersburg man was arrested Tuesday morning for setting fire inside his apartment to stay warm. The man, Mark Okrent, had allegedly set fire to a stack of paperwork in his building around 3am.
According to reports, the flames were large enough that they managed to set off the smoke detectors. That alarm caused the local fire department to respond. Okrent had several options available to him through neighbors and owners of the building to stay warm.
There were residents that were home at the time of the fire but luckily no one was injured.
Mark Okrent, 66, was arrested and is charged with arson in the first degree.
