Palm Beach: Florida woman Sandra Ann Maddigan was arrested after stealing a car from a hospitalized man.
On Wednesday just before 5 p.m., the license plate recognition system on the Lake Worth Bridge alerted police to a stolen vehicle entering town.
Police pulled over Sandra Ann Maddigan driving a black, 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt southbound on South Ocean Boulevard near Lake Avenue. The car was reported stolen from Okeechobee County on Monday.
Maddigan told officers she borrowed the car from the registered owner of the vehicle. The owner was contacted and he told police the car was stolen while he was hospitalized for 10 days.
In the trunk, police found luggage bearing Maddigan’s name that contained a syringe and a bag of heroin, the report said. They also found three baggies with heroin residue in her wallet.
Two other occupants in the vehicle were let go after telling officers they were unaware the car was stolen.
Sandra Ann Maddigan was arrested and charged with felony grand theft auto, felony possession of heroin and a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Records show that in 2018, she was found guilty of felony possession of drug paraphernalia and leaving the scene of an accident in Florida, as well as several traffic infractions in Florida and Washington.
