Roderick Lavon Sheffield Gets 20 Years After His 26th Felony Where He Was Caught On Camera Stealing Tools | August 30
Pensacola: Career criminal Roderick Lavon Sheffield was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted in his 26th felony.
Sheffield has more than 10 prior burglary convictions alone and was released from prison in August 2018, according to state prosecutor Bill Eddins.
Prosecutors presented Sheffield’s prior record at his sentencing hearing to prove he was a prison release offender and a habitual felony offender. Because of his status as a prison release offender, Eddins said 15 years of Sheffield’s 20-year sentence will be served as a mandatory minimum.
According to reports, Sheffield burglarized a victim’s home Dec. 5, 2018, and Jan. 6, 2019, entering a garage and taking several tools and items. Both acts of were caught on surveillance video.
Roderick Lavon Sheffield, 41, was sentenced after pleading no contest June 14 in three separate cases to two counts of burglary of a dwelling, grand theft ($300 or more but less than $5,000), introduction of contraband articles into a county detention facility and possession of a controlled substance (less than 20 grams of cannabis).
