Mariano Martinez Stole a Car, Attempted To Evade Police, Sets Car On Fire, Is Arrested After K9 Tracks Him Down | July 22
Orlando: A 32-year-old Orlando man was arrested Sunday afternoon after leaving a stolen vehicle engulfed in flames on an Interstate 4 exit ramp. According to reports police were tracking a vehicle allegedly stolen by Mariano Martinez when he dumped the car near State Road 408.
The incident started when Martinez stole a vehicle, which was then reported stolen by the owner. Police began tracking the vehicle and were closing in on it.
Martinez allegedly stopped on off-ramp and set the car ablaze. The Orlando Fire Department responded to the fire around 11:30 a.m. and the off ramp was temporarily closed with traffic backed up to Conroy Road.
Orange County deputies said Martinez fled the scene but was eventually captured by the K9 unit.
Mariano Martinez faces charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office charged him with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
