Daytona Beach: When parents want to teach their kids how to swim, sometimes they take extreme measures. Florida man John Bloodsworth was arrested after throwing and leaving his 5 year old son in the Atlantic Ocean to teach him how to swim.
According to reports, bystanders saw the boy struggling and the father doing nothing, so they went to the boy’s aid. Police were then called to the scene. When they arrived the man said that he was going to jail for “being awesome.”
He claimed he was just trying to teach his son how to swim.
Witnesses said Bloodsworth had thrown his son into the water with the boy struggling to keep his head above water in a deep part of the ocean. The father continued to climb onto the pier repeatedly and jump into the water.
A witness who was vacationing in Daytona Beach with his family, said he couldn’t take what he was seeing and confronted Bloodsworth. The vacationer brought Bloodsworth to a police officer, who made the arrest.
Luckily the child didn’t show any signs of injuries.
John Bloodsworth was arrested and is charged with disorderly intoxication, jumping off the pier, and aggravated abuse of a child.
