Eric Rim Sped From Police, Called 911 To Complain About Officer Who Damaged His Vehicle; Gets Arrested | August 5

Gainesville: Eric Rim was arrested Saturday night after police say he drove recklessly past officers directing pedestrians, one of whom threw his flashlight at the vehicle to slow it down. The man then threatened to kill the officer for damaging the vehicle, and a woman who had upset him during a fight.

According to reports Eric Rim, 22, drove past the officers, who were on foot, in the 1300 block of Southeast 17th Terrace Saturday at about 12:50 a.m.

Rim’s vehicle was traveling at about 60 mph when it approached the area where the officers stood. Police shouted and used the strobe setting on a flashlight to indicate Rim to stop, but he continued.

An officer swung his flashlight at the vehicle in a final attempt to stop the vehicle. Rim continued driving to his residence, where he noticed damage to his vehicle.

He told two women inside he was angry a flashlight had been thrown at his car by a police officer, took out a handgun and said he would shoot the officer. Rim also grabbed one of the women inside by the neck, threatened to shoot her and said he would dispose of her body in the prairie.

Rim contacted police at about 11:28 a.m. Saturday to make a complaint about the vehicle damage. Police arrived on scene and arrested Eric Rim on charges of fleeing police, reckless driving, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.
